The following is a transcription of the U2 press conference held at Auckland Airport, on 3rd November 1989 – the day before the LoveTown concert in Christchurch.  It has been transcribed from the raw, unedited footage that was recorded by one of the television news crews.  The footage is approximately 29 minutes long – most of which, of course, was never broadcast (the item that eventually went to air probably would have been no more than three or four minutes long).

PRESS GALLERYWIDE SHOT INCLUDING PRESS GALLERY

Because none of the journalists ever appeared on camera while asking their questions, it is difficult to identify the vast majority of them.  The most recognisable voice is that of the late Dylan Taite, who was one of New Zealand's most respected music journalists.  At this press conference, Dylan was reporting for Television New Zealand.  New Zealand's other major television broadcaster, TV3, was also present.  However, it is not known which journalist (if any) was asking questions on their behalf.

One other recognisable voice is believed to be that of Moana Maniapoto-Jackson – a New Zealand actress and singer who is perhaps best known for her involvement with 'Moana and the Moa Hunters'.

Questions from each unidentified journalist have been grouped together where possible (ie, where it's apparent that it's the same person asking each question).
